Second grade students participated in a Root Beer float experiment. The Root Beer float experiment demonstrated the three states of matter: the solid ice cream, the liquid root beer, and the gas bubbles formed when carbonation escaped. As the carbonated root beer was poured, it interacted with the ice cream, and released the trapped carbon dioxide gas creating a foamy top layer. 🍨 🫧 🥤
Students also had to explain and show a reversible change with ice/water. Students froze water to make ice cubes. They then took an ice cube (solid) and turned it back into water by melting it (liquid).
Students then played a matching game where they had to match solids to their liquid state!
